Migraines are of different types as there is no known cause for migraines; most people are constricted on the grapevine theories of the cause of migraines. It is believed that steroinin levels in the brain on fluctuation might either cause the expansion or contraction of blood vessels. If the blood vessels behave in such a way, they will cause the brain to react with the follow up migraines. These migraines vary in intensity of pain but they are different as others might not really be accompanied with pain while others might miss similar symptoms of the common migraines.
The basic factor is that they are all migraines and not headaches. A person with a headache can slightly go about their normal day activities. Though they might not deliver as they would if they did not have the headache but they will still perform. For people with migraines, its better to have you check by a professional expert in migraine treatments and advise what medication will be help you reduced poor performance.
Migraines are quite painful as they affect one side of the brain which will be felt on one side of the head. Light variation and noises might really have the person with the migraines experience some havocking pain. Migraines are quite serious and if they happen to attack, the individual will end up resorting to sleep, or relaxing in a not so brightly lit room. Migraines might have really painful attacks but the good thing is that they are not life threatening. There is however one type of migraine known as the basilar migraine which is a variation of the classic migraine and the aura migraine. It is also known as the basilar artery migraine which is quite life threatening.
The major cause of this basilar migraine is constriction of the basilar artery which supplies blood to the stem of the brain. This migraine was initially thought to only affect children and teenagers in their adolescence however; recent research shows that it can affect all age groups and any gender. Basilar migraines are quite serious and life threatening as they can be the cause of a stroke. If blood does not flow to the brain as required, the brain will have to adapt to that. It will do so by using the little supply of blood to ensure it works as required. This in turn will cause a lot of brain activity having the brain really work extra hard to serve the same way it would if it got enough blood supply. Headaches associated with the basilar artery are also serious headaches that are quite uncomfortable and very painful in nature.
